GP Rating Course

If you just finished your 10th, 12th, or ITI, you don’t need to spend years studying engineering or high-level physics to join the Merchant Navy. The GP Rating Course is the ultimate shortcut. It is a quick, 6-month pre-sea training program approved by DG Shipping that gets you job-ready faster than almost any other career path.

The best part? You don’t need to worry about high PCM marks from school. Once you graduate from an approved institute, you can step right onto a merchant ship working in either the Deck or Engine department. If your goal is to travel the world, earn a solid paycheck, and start your seafaring career while your peers are still sitting in classrooms, this is your fastest ticket out to sea.

What is a GP Rating Course?

The GP Rating (General Purpose Rating) course is a 6-month, hands-on training program approved by DG Shipping, where you receive practical training in ship maintenance, seamanship, cargo handling, safety procedures, and the fundamentals of marine engineering. It is one of the most popular Merchant Navy courses for students who do not have PCM in Class 12th but still want to build a career at sea. After completing the course, you can join merchant ships in either of the following departments:

  • Deck Department
  • Engine Department

However, getting admission into the right GP Rating College is the key to securing sponsorship from top shipping companies. Let’s check what things you need to look for before applying.
